TWO is Tape Audio Co.'s second pedal, featuring a novel dual-transistor distortion circuit that stacks germanium and silicon stages. The Pre control governs the output of the germanium drive circuit, which feeds into the silicon circuit controlled by the Gain knob. Master sets overall volume. There are no tone controls—the EQ is balanced, so you dial in your sound by adjusting the relationship between Pre, Gain, and Master. The tonal range covers light coloring, medium grit and bite, and searing distortion bordering on fuzz. TWO uses NOS (New Old Stock) components throughout: Carbon Comp resistors, Philips/Sprague/GE capacitors, germanium transistors and diodes, with Switchcraft and Lumberg jacks. Solid aluminum dials give it a premium feel. Built in small batches in Portland by a team with over 15 years in guitar effects, the pedal rewards hands-on experimentation with the three gain controls rather than traditional tone shaping.
