Tark 144
Tascam 144 Portastudio channel strip emulation with JFET preamp, 2-band EQ, and compander.
The Tark 144 is a circuit replication of the circa 1979 Teac Tascam 144 4-Track Cassette Portastudio's channel strip. It captures the JFET preamp followed by active tone control that made the original a studio workhorse for lo-fi and indie recording.
The pedal features a 2-band EQ, compander (compressor/expander), and switchable low and high impedance options. The gain range covers boost, overdrive, and saturating distortion, giving you the warm, slightly compressed character of running hot into a cassette machine. The active EQ lets you shape the tone before and after the gain stages.
Built in Portland, the Tark 144 is a textured extended-range boost/overdrive/preamp that brings cassette Portastudio warmth to your pedalboard. It's designed for players chasing that specific early-'80s tape saturation sound or who want a versatile preamp with vintage character.
