2 Track Tape-Style Compressor
Stereo tape-style diode compressor with VU meter and dual XLR outs—mild distortion at high input, 9V.
Templo Devices builds battery-powered amps and analog pedals in Canada, founded in 2019 by Scott Strange. The 2 Track Tape-Style Compressor recreates vintage 1966 diode compressor circuits that powered early recording studios, adapted for modern pedalboard and studio integration. Dual circuits run in stereo configuration with VU meter providing visual feedback of compression intensity—the squish becomes visible, useful for dialing in consistent gain reduction across both channels.
Input volume knob adds gain before the diodes, controlling compression threshold—higher settings trigger harder compression. At the highest quarter of the input volume control, the circuit starts to distort pleasantly, adding harmonic saturation reminiscent of tape saturation. Dual XLR outputs supplement TRS stereo I/O, allowing direct connection to recording interfaces or mixing consoles without external DI boxes. The heavily colored, mild distortion characteristics suit sources beyond guitar: bass, vocals, and synths benefit from the vintage compression character.
Dimensions 120x67x56mm, 9V standard center-negative power. The 2 Track targets producers and multi-instrumentalists seeking vintage studio compression in pedalboard format, suitable for recording, live performance, and home studios.
