The 1861 is part of Vick Audio's Tau Classic Reproduction Series, recreating the Civil War-era Big Muff Pi from the 1990s. This variant delivers smooth, low-end focused fuzz tones that sit between the aggression of Ram's Head circuits and the refinement of Russian variants. Built with hand-wired construction using through-hole components on US-made PCBs.

Features Volume, Tone, and Sustain controls, plus a 3-position mid-range switch offering scooped (stock), flat, and boosted mids—an enhancement over the original EHX design. The pedal uses a 3PDT true bypass switch, Neutrik jacks, and powder-coated enclosure. Requires 9V DC via 2.1mm Boss-style jack (no battery clip). Hand-assembled in small batches in the USA. Retail price was $129 before Vick Audio ceased production in 2023.
