CH-01 Chorus
1980s stereo analog chorus with vibrato mode—battery-only 9V, depth/speed controls, PSE system compatible.
Yamaha entered the guitar effects market in the 1980s with the PSE (Personal Sound Equipment) system board concept, allowing players to build modular pedalboard rigs with integrated power and signal routing. The CH-01 Chorus formed part of this system, offering stereo analog chorus with vibrato capability in a compact format designed to integrate with other PSE pedals.
Depth and Speed controls provide straightforward chorus parameter adjustment, with delay time approximately 10ms during normal operation. The pedal offers stereo outputs with direct out capability—inserting a dummy jack in the stereo output activates vibrato mode rather than chorus, transforming the effect character without additional switches. High-quality analog circuitry delivers warm, musical modulation typical of 1980s bucket-brigade designs.
Battery-only operation via single 9V battery (no AC adapter terminal on PSE series), vintage Japanese manufacturing. The CH-01 targeted guitarists seeking classic analog chorus tones as part of Yamaha's integrated pedalboard ecosystem, suitable for 1980s new wave, pop, and rock where lush, organic modulation enhanced clean tones without digital artifacts.
