NE-1 Parametric Equalizer
Nathan East signature bass parametric EQ with switchable Q curves (shallow/deep/flat)—9V battery, <2mA, 380g.
Yamaha collaborated with legendary session bassist Nathan East to create the NE-1 Parametric Equalizer, addressing the specific tonal shaping needs of professional bassists. Unlike fixed-frequency graphic EQs or simple tone controls, parametric equalizers allow precise targeting of specific frequency ranges with adjustable bandwidth (Q) for surgical tonal correction or creative sound shaping impossible with standard bass amplifier EQ sections.
The pedal offers three Q control settings: Shallow provides smooth, gradual curves for gentle tonal adjustments; Deep provides sharp curves for notching out problematic frequencies or creating dramatic boosts; Flat bypasses all EQ processing for unaffected signal. Frequency control sweeps from 200Hz to 10kHz (Deep mode) or 150Hz to 6kHz (Shallow mode), Level control provides up to -20dB cut or boost (Deep) or -10dB (Shallow). Input impedance of 470kΩ prevents loading down passive bass pickups, output impedance varies from 1kΩ to 4.7kΩ depending on volume position.
9V battery power only (no DC jack), consumes less than 2mA for extended battery life, 380g weight, dimensions 60x140x88mm. No on/off switch—signal passes through continuously while battery is installed. The NE-1 targeted professional bassists seeking precise tonal control for studio recording and live performance, suitable for funk, R&B, and session work where matching bass tone to track requirements demands more than fixed EQ points.
