Box of Rock
JTM45 Marshall in a box with built-in Super Hard On boost. Cranked plexi crunch from clean to saturated.
The Box of Rock captures the essence of a cranked 1966 Marshall JTM45 in pedal form. Zvex painstakingly analyzed the amp's gain structure and harmonic response to create this authentically voiced distortion that cleans up beautifully with guitar volume.
Controls include Volume, Tone, and Drive for the distortion section, plus a separate Super Hard On boost that can push the front end harder or serve as an independent clean boost. A Subs switch adjusts low-end content. The circuit draws only about 3mA, preserving battery life.
Unlike modern high-gain pedals, the Box of Rock responds dynamically to picking intensity. Light touches yield crisp breakup while digging in produces saturated sustain. It's designed to work best with the amplifier set clean, transforming any amp into a convincing plexi-style rock machine.
