DRV
RAT-inspired overdrive/distortion with a refined preamp boost circuit, created by Relient K guitarist Matthew Hoopes.
The DRV is a meticulously refined take on the classic ProCo RAT circuit, born from Matthew Hoopes' obsession with his 1985 Whiteface RAT. After four years of development with Jon Ashley of Bondi Effects, the DRV emerged in 2018 and quickly became one of the most sought-after pedals in the boutique market.
What sets the DRV apart is its dual-circuit design: a carefully voiced distortion section paired with a preamp boost, all running internally at 18V via a charge pump for increased headroom and dynamics. The three-knob interface (DRV, CUT, VOL) provides intuitive control over gain, treble rolloff, and output level.
The pedal's distinctive folded steel enclosure and limited direct-sales-only availability have contributed to its cult status. New drops sell out almost instantly, making the DRV both a player's tool and a collector's item.
