CE-3 Chorus
Stereo chorus with separate left/right outputs for spatial width. Boss chorus series, 1982-1992.
The CE-3 arrived in 1982 as the first Boss chorus with stereo outputs in the compact format, making it the affordable way to get spatial chorus effects. It moved from the CE-2's analog BBD circuit to a hybrid digital/analog design.
The switch from pure BBD to a digital delay line gave the CE-3 a cleaner, brighter chorus character compared to the warmer CE-2. Stereo outputs split the wet and dry signals to separate amps for true spatial width. A Rate and Depth control shape the modulation, just like the CE-2.
Rate, Depth, and a Stereo/Mono selector. At 13mA it's power-efficient. The CE-3 ran from 1982 to 1990, sitting alongside the CE-2 in the lineup for several years before the CE-2 was discontinued.
The CE-3 lives in the CE-2's shadow but has its own following among players who prefer a crisper, less colored chorus sound. The stereo outputs were a real differentiator in the early 80s.
