CE-5 Chorus Ensemble
Modern chorus with high-cut and low-cut filters for precise frequency shaping. Stereo output.
The CE-5 Chorus Ensemble has been in production since 1995, making it one of Boss's longest-running chorus pedals. It adds high and low filters to the chorus circuit, giving players control over which frequencies get the modulation treatment.
The filter controls are the distinguishing feature. A Low Filter cuts bass frequencies from the chorus effect, preventing the muddiness that chorus can introduce on lower strings. A High Filter rolls off treble shimmer for a warmer, less obvious chorus sound. These two knobs let you dial in subtle, transparent chorus or full-on Leslie-like swirl.
Rate, Depth, and the Filter controls. At 20mA it's modest on power. Stereo outputs are available for spatial applications. The CE-5 uses a digital delay line for the modulation, giving it a cleaner, more precise character than the BBD-based CE-2.
The CE-5 is the utilitarian chorus: not as collectible as the CE-2, not as feature-rich as the DC-2W, but reliable and endlessly in production. The filter controls make it more versatile than most compact chorus pedals.
