DD-2 Digital Delay
The world's first compact digital delay (1984) - a historic breakthrough still prized today.
The DD-2 holds a genuine place in music technology history: released in 1984, it was the world's first compact digital delay pedal. Boss crammed a custom delay chip into the standard compact enclosure, something no one thought was possible at the time.
Up to 800ms of clean digital delay with three range modes. A Hold function captures and loops the current audio indefinitely, making it an accidental proto-looper years before loopers existed as a category. The repeats are pristine and uncolored, a revelation in 1984 when the only alternatives were analog delays with degrading repeats or expensive rack units.
E.Level, F.Back, D.Time, and Mode controls. The DD-2 was produced from 1984 to 1986 before being replaced by the DD-3, which used the same circuit with minor revisions. Japanese-made throughout its entire run.
Now a collector's item, valued both for its historical significance and its sound. The DD-2 proved that digital effects could work in a compact pedal format, opening the door for everything that followed.
