The DF-2 Super Feedbacker & Distortion combines a distortion circuit with a unique feedback generator. Hold down the footswitch on a sustained note and the DF-2 creates a controlled harmonic feedback tone, simulating the kind of sustained feedback you'd normally need a loud amp to produce.
The feedback function locks onto the harmonic and sustains it indefinitely as long as you hold the footswitch. Release it and the feedback decays naturally. The distortion circuit underneath is respectable but secondary to the feedback feature, which was genuinely novel when the DF-2 launched in 1984.
Distortion and feedback amount are controlled by the same knob set: Tone, Level, and Distortion. Feedback sustain is controlled by footswitch pressure. At 5mA, it's extremely power-efficient.
The DF-2 is a cult pedal. Players who discover the feedback function tend to love it; it enables controlled harmonic sustain at any volume, which is otherwise physically impossible without standing in front of a cranked amp.
