DM-3 Delay
Analog delay successor to DM-2 with extended features and quieter operation.
The DM-3 replaced the DM-2 in 1984, extending Boss's analog delay line with quieter operation and slightly different voicing. It used the same MN3205 BBD chip found in many delays of the era, with improved noise reduction compared to its predecessor.
Delay time up to 300ms with the same three-control layout: Repeat Rate, Echo, and Intensity. The DM-3 is generally considered brighter and cleaner than the DM-2, with less of the dark, murky character that makes the DM-2 sought after. Whether that's an improvement depends on taste.
At 11mA it draws slightly more than the DM-2 but is still extremely power-efficient. Produced from 1984 to 1988, when Boss shifted focus entirely to digital delays. The DM-3 was the last analog delay Boss would make until the DM-2W Waza Craft reissue in 2015.
Less collectible than the DM-2 but still a quality analog delay. The DM-3 gets overlooked in the shadow of its predecessor, but players who prefer a cleaner analog repeat find it more useful in a mix.
