PS-3 Pitch Shifter/Delay
11-mode pitch shifter/delay with detune, dual voices, and the original shimmer effect.
The PS-3 Pitch Shifter/Delay expanded on the PS-2 with three modes and improved pitch shifting quality. Released in 1994, it offered pitch shift, detune, and a feedback pitch shift mode that created ascending or descending cascading echoes.
Three modes: Pitch Shift (fixed interval), Detune (subtle pitch offset), and Feedback Pitch Shift (each echo is shifted further in pitch, creating cascading spirals). The Feedback Pitch Shift mode is the standout: it produces the crystalline, ascending shimmer effect that became popular in ambient and experimental music.
Shift, Fine, Feedback, and Balance controls. The Feedback Pitch Shift mode specifically made the PS-3 a cult pedal among ambient players. Each delay repetition shifts pitch further, creating rising or falling cascades of sound.
Produced from 1994 to 1999. The PS-3's shimmer-before-shimmer-was-a-thing status has made it a collector's item. The Feedback Pitch Shift mode predated the shimmer reverb trend by over a decade.
