Shigeharu
Hybrid Muff/Screamer fuzz with parallel octave-up circuit and Body control.
The Caroline Guitar Company Shigeharu, designed with John Snyder of Electronic Audio Experiments, combines classic Muff-style fuzziness with the punch of overdrive. It uses a cascading hybrid of op-amp and BC184 transistor gain stages.
A parallel octave-up fuzz circuit activates via the Havoc footswitch, adding singing upper harmonics on demand. Internal controls include a bias/gate trimpot and a switch to lock the octave on while converting Havoc to a kill switch.
Controls include Level, Drive, Havoc Level (octave), Tone, and Body (bass/midrange shape). The Shigeharu works consistently regardless of signal chain position, even after buffers, making it more practical than traditional fuzz designs.
