Octopussy
Octavia-meets-Colorsound octave-up fuzz with analog full-frequency tracking and Body control.
The Catalinbread Octapussy combines a Roger Mayer Octavia octave-up section with the gain stage of a Colorsound Overdriver, connected through a pseudo-variable-capacitor feedback loop. Three silicon transistors and two diodes, all analog, no digital tracking.
Gain and Body shape the fuzz character. The Body control adjusts a 680nF capacitor in parallel with a static 1nF cap, sweeping the low-end response from thin and cutting to thick and full. Atten sets the output level, wired at the tail of the circuit in reverse for a natural taper.
The Octapussy is extremely responsive to everything you do: guitar volume, tone knob position, pickup selection, and where you play on the neck all change the sound dramatically. Neck pickup above the 12th fret gives you classic high-octave Hendrix leads. Everywhere else, it's a dynamic, harmonically complex fuzz that cleans up with your volume knob.
