Naga Viper MKII
Updated treble boost with attenuator—hotter transistor for more gain, Dallas Rangemaster DNA.
The Catalinbread Naga Viper MKII updates the original Naga Viper treble booster with a hotter transistor for increased gain and an added Attenuate control. Based on the Dallas Rangemaster circuit, it uses Heat to set the boost intensity, Range to control the frequency emphasis from full-range to treble-focused, and Boost for output level.
The new Attenuate knob lets you dial back the input signal hitting the boost circuit, which changes the character of the clipping rather than just reducing volume. At full attenuation with high Heat settings, you get a different flavor of breakup than simply turning Heat down. Runs on 9–18V DC for variable headroom.
The Rangemaster circuit defined the sound of British rock—Brian May, Tony Iommi, and Rory Gallagher all used treble boosters into cranked Marshall and Vox amps. The MKII gives you that fundamental circuit with enough modern refinements to be practical on a contemporary pedalboard.
