Killer V
Magnatone-inspired tube preamp with true pitch-shifting vibrato and phaser modes.
The Killer V recreates the preamp and vibrato circuits found in rare 1950s-60s California amplifiers known for their distinctive pitch-shifting modulation. The all-analog JFET circuit models the preamp, phase inverter, power amp characteristics, and tube rectifier compression, with an internal voltage multiplier driving the signal chain.
Two discrete phase-shift modulation stages produce real pitch vibrato via an all-analog LFO. The Wet/Dry-Wet switch enables parallel dry and modulated signal mixing for phaser and univibe-style sounds. Six main controls include Volume, Master, Depth, Speed, Bass, and Treble, with a B/N/M toggle for Bright, Normal, and Mellow voicings. An internal gain mode switch selects between normal and modified higher-gain modes.
Two silent-relay footswitches provide independent bypass and vibrato engagement, so you can run the amp-style preamp alone, the vibrato alone, or both combined.
