Prunes & Custard
Harmonic intermodulator creating synth-like fuzz with envelope-controlled overtones. Truly unique circuit.
Crowther Audio's Prunes & Custard defies easy categorization. Created by Paul Crowther in New Zealand, it's officially a 'Harmonic-Generator-Intermodulator' - a unique effect unlike anything else.
The Prunes & Custard combines a dynamic preamp with specialized waveshaping distortion, creating rich odd-order harmonic overtones that intermodulate with the original signal. The result resembles a ring modulator but more musical, with synth-like character and envelope sweep that reacts to playing dynamics.
With Drive, Mix, and LF Retain controls plus Guitar/Bass switching, it creates everything from cutting fuzz-leads to laser beam sweeps. Guitar and Bass Magazine named it their 2006 overall pedal of the year.
