Grunge FX69
High-gain distortion with Butt and Face EQ designed for 90s alternative tones.
The DOD Grunge FX69 epitomizes the 1990s alternative rock sound with its massive, scooped distortion character. Introduced in 1993, it became one of DOD's best-selling pedals by delivering the saturated, aggressive tones heard on countless grunge records.
The colorfully-named controls tell you everything about its character: Loud sets output volume, Grunge controls distortion amount, and Butt/Face adjust low and high EQ respectively. The three-IC gain stage provides more distortion than most pedals of its era could muster.
Unlike the reissued DOD pedals with true bypass, the original FX69 uses buffered switching. The original US-made version differs slightly from the later FX69B reissue. Players seeking that quintessential 90s tone—think Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden—often reach for the Grunge.
