Berkeley
1973 Fresh Fuzz replica. Single op-amp 741 version favored by Tom Scholz and Eric Johnson.
JHS honored the original 1973 Seamoon Fresh Fuzz in the Legends of Fuzz series—specifically the rare single op-amp 741 version that Craig Anderton and John Lang designed before switching to dual op-amp circuits in later production. The Berkeley replicates Version 1 of a fuzz that Tom Scholz used on early Boston recordings and Eric Johnson adopted for his singing lead tones.
The Fresh Fuzz gained notoriety for sounding nothing like typical fuzz pedals. The 741 op-amp circuit produces smooth saturation with harmonic richness that sits between traditional fuzz and overdrive territories. Volume, Tone, and Attack controls shape the response, while the JHS mode toggle adds extra gain and midrange boost for modern applications.
At 4mA draw, it's one of the most efficient pedals in the catalog. Runs on 9V DC or single 9V battery. True bypass switching. Historical accuracy for a fuzz that redefined what broken sound could accomplish.
