Germanium Boost
Rangemaster treble boost with NOS OC71 germanium transistors. Limited to 700 units, sold out fast.
When JHS announced the Germanium Boost in December 2022, all 700 units sold out in seven minutes. The $249 pedal used black glass OC71 germanium transistors from a private UK stash, the same NOS components found in original Dallas Rangemasters that powered Rory Gallagher, Tony Iommi, and Brian May's legendary tones.
The circuit follows the classic treble boost formula: a single germanium stage that brightens and pushes your amp into singing overdrive. A toggle switch selects between authentic Rangemaster voicing (bright, cutting) and a thicker contemporary mode with more low-end punch. One gain knob controls the boost level.
The grey-green enclosure matches original Rangemaster colorways. With OC71 transistors now nearly extinct, JHS limited production to available components rather than compromise with modern substitutes.
