Hard Drive
JHS's first original high-gain distortion. Cascaded gain stages with sweepable mids and hard clip.
After fifteen years cloning and modifying classic circuits, JHS released the Hard Drive in 2024 as their first completely original distortion design. It targets the high-gain territory of '90s and 2000s metal tones without referencing any specific vintage pedal, using cascaded gain stages and a hard limiting circuit followed by a class AB amplifier section.
The control panel reads like a modern amp: Volume, Drive, Bass, Middle, Treble, plus a crucial Mid Frequency knob that lets you choose which frequency the Mid control boosts or cuts. This Baxandall-style EQ provides surgical tone shaping from RAT-style buzz to dimed Marshall roar. The Drive knob spans aggressive overdrive through full distortion saturation.
Available in black or tan, the Hard Drive marks JHS's entry into contemporary distortion territory after a catalog built on vintage circuit archaeology.
