Mary-K
Kay Fuzz Tone homage from Legends of Fuzz series. Expression control for Frequency.
The Mary-K belongs to JHS's Legends of Fuzz series, paying tribute to pedals that shaped fuzz history. This one recreates the Kay Fuzz Tone from late 1968/early 1969, originally designed as a budget alternative to the Shin-ei/Univox Superfuzz. While the vintage Kay used a knobless treadle design, JHS added proper controls and modern features to make it pedalboard-friendly.
The circuit delivers synth-like octave fuzz tones with a fixed gain level set to wall-of-sound saturation. Unlike the original treadle design, the Mary-K includes traditional knobs and an expression pedal output that controls the Frequency parameter for foot-sweepable filter effects.
Part of the final sale Legends series, the Mary-K sold at $89.50 and has since sold out. Low 20mA current draw and simple 9V operation.
