Misty Cave
BBD-based analog resonance echo with pitch-sensitive feedback and CV expression input.
LastGasp Art Laboratories was founded by Hirofumi Uchino in Tokyo in 1992, with roots in the experimental noise scene. After relocating to Sydney, Australia in 2005, Hiro rebuilt the entire production line from scratch, creating wildly unconventional effects championed by noise and experimental artists worldwide.
The Misty Cave creates analog resonance echo using BBD (bucket brigade device) chips, the same technology used in classic chorus, flanger, and delay circuits. The echo is inherently sensitive to input pitch, creating resonant feedback that maintains the integrity of your original signal even when stacked with other delays.
Three controls shape the sound: Rate adjusts feedback speed, D.Time sets delay length, and Blend mixes wet and dry signals. A CV pedal input (compatible with Roland EV-5) allows expression control over delay time. The result is mysterious, floating echo reminiscent of the Indian sitar's sympathetic resonance, but with its own unique character.
