The EVH 5150 Overdrive bottles the preamp characteristics of Eddie Van Halen's legendary 5150 amplifier. The circuit captures that brown sound in pedal form, from crunchy rhythm to saturated lead tones.
Three-band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble) provides extensive tone shaping. Gain and Output controls manage saturation and volume. The goal is delivering 5150 character into any amp, not just high-gain heads.
Eddie developed this with MXR/Dunlop to make his signature amp tones accessible without needing the actual amplifier. The voicing targets that harmonically rich, compressed yet dynamic sound that defined his later career.
The striped enclosure matches Eddie's Frankenstein guitar aesthetic. True bypass switching. Works well as a standalone drive or boosting other overdrives for layered gain structures.
