80/A Flanger
A/DA Flanger recreation using 512-stage BBD at 18V with expression input and envelope flanging.
The PastFX 80/A Flanger is a compact recreation of the late-1970s A/DA Flanger, using an obsolete high-voltage 512-stage Matsushita/Panasonic bucket-brigade device. Running at 18VDC provides higher headroom than low-voltage BBD designs.
Seven external controls offer deep sound shaping: Manual sets fixed delay time, Range blends between Speed (auto LFO) and Manual modes, Speed controls LFO rate with dual-color LED indication, Blend adjusts wet/dry mix, Threshold controls a noise gate that can also produce envelope-style flanging based on attack dynamics, Enhance adds regenerated signal feedback for more intense effects, and Level adjusts output volume. A Harmonics toggle switches between negative feedback (blue LED, hollow tubular sound) and positive feedback (red LED, fuller sound). A Control jack accepts expression pedals (10K-100K pot) for external Manual control.
Delay time ranges from 0.39ms to 14ms with LFO speeds up to approximately 30 seconds. True bypass, 112 x 60 x 31mm enclosure drawing 35mA at 18VDC. Handmade in Brisbane, Australia.
