The Selah Effects Q:Expander is not standalone effects pedal, but rather essential expansion module designed specifically to work with Selah Effects Quartz Timer V2 and V3. This utility pedal extends functionality of Quartz Timer by providing additional footswitches for hands-free control of your pedalboard, making it invaluable tool for live performance and complex studio setups. Up to three Q:Expander units can be connected to single Quartz Timer, providing up to six additional footswitches that dramatically expand control possibilities.
Each footswitch on Q:Expander features dual functionality: tap function that activates when you press switch briefly, and hold function that activates when you press and hold switch for approximately one second. This dual-action design maximizes control possibilities without requiring additional hardware. Functions available through Q:Expander depend on how many units you have connected to your Quartz Timer. With no Q:Expander, Quartz V2 offers 2 assignable functions. Adding one Q:Expander increases this to 6 functions, two Q:Expanders provide 9 functions, and three Q:Expanders unlock 14 assignable functions.
Assignable functions include critical pedalboard operations such as Tap Tempo for setting rhythmic timing across your time-based effects, Next Preset and Previous Preset for navigating through your saved configurations, Toggle Clock In to control whether Quartz receives incoming MIDI clock signals, and Toggle Audio In to control whether Quartz responds to incoming audio metronome. Beyond these built-in functions, each footswitch can be programmed to jump directly to specific Quartz preset, allowing you to create favorites bank of your most-used settings that are always instantly accessible.
Q:Expander's true power lies in its MIDI capabilities. Each footswitch function can be configured to send custom list of MIDI messages, enabling you to control any parameter on your MIDI-capable pedals and devices. This makes Q:Expander incredibly powerful tool for controlling complex pedalboards with Chase Bliss Audio, Empress Effects, Meris, Strymon, and other MIDI-enabled gear. Ability to send multiple MIDI messages with single footswitch press means you can create snapshot-style preset changes that alter multiple parameters across multiple pedals simultaneously, bringing studio-level control to your live rig.
