Fuzz
Temperature-stable germanium fuzz based on classic Fuzz Face/Tone Bender MkI.5 topology, featuring Active Bias Monitor for precise and recallable vintage fuzz tones.
The Silktone Fuzz is meticulously engineered germanium fuzz pedal built around classic two-transistor Fuzz Face and Tone Bender MkI.5 topology, using carefully tested and matched NOS (New Old Stock) Soviet germanium transistors. What sets this pedal apart from traditional germanium fuzzes is its innovative Active Bias Monitor system, which addresses most notorious shortcoming of vintage germanium circuits: temperature-induced bias drift. Pedal features LED voltage display that provides precise, numerical readout of transistor bias voltage, allowing players to dial in and recall specific fuzz tones with unprecedented consistency, even as ambient temperature fluctuates.
Heart of pedal's versatility lies in its bias control, which fundamentally alters how germanium transistors distort and clip audio signal. Rather than making both transistors adjustable (which creates instability) or only second transistor (which limits tonal range), Silktone's design uses direct coupling between transistors to enable both to reach optimal operating points while maintaining wide, accessible range of stable tones. Bias voltage directly correlates to specific fuzz textures: around 1.10v delivers gated, spitty fuzz; 2.50v provides vintage Fuzz Face character; 4.50v hits classic sweet spot; 6.50v creates fat, saturated fuzz; and 7.50-8.00v produces sticky, compressed fuzz tones.
Pedal includes several critical features that expand its usability beyond traditional germanium fuzzes. Pickup simulator circuit (based on widely-circulated Orman circuit design) sits at beginning of signal path, allowing pedal to be placed anywhere in your effects chain while still behaving as if your guitar were plugged directly into it. This debuffer solves common problem of germanium fuzzes oscillating or losing tone when placed after buffered pedals. Cleanup knob mimics effect of rolling back your guitar's volume knob, allowing you to reduce fuzz intensity and achieve light overdrive tones at maximum settings. Classic/Raw toggle switch provides two distinct voicing options: Classic mode offers traditional Fuzz Face bass filtering for that iconic vintage tone, while Raw mode removes bass filter and extends transistor bias ratios for thicker, more boosted fuzz tones.
