1971
Triangle Big Muff recreation with vintage correct components. Smooth, sustained fuzz.
The 1971 is a triangle-knob era Big Muff Pi variant with deliberately reduced gain for amp-like distortion character rather than full fuzz saturation. Uses the exact same component types as the original 1971 Big Muffs: 2N5133 silicon transistors (historically marked FS36999), carbon composition resistors, and ceramic capacitors.
Sustain, Volume, and Tone controls. The pulled-back gain retains tightness and openness with a "stringy" attack character and excellent chord-friendly string separation. Sounds more like a cranked Laney or Mesa Boogie than a traditional fuzz — vintage amp-like lower-gain muffy distortion with plenty of sustain.
Authentic early 1970s triangle-knob Big Muff components in a modern, reliable format. Handmade in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. True bypass.
