Cosmos
Advanced digital looper and effects processor featuring four algorithms including dual/quad delay lines, giant reverb, and granular looper with stereo processing at 32-bit/48kHz using Cirrus Logic converters and Burr-Brown op-amps.
The SOMA Laboratory Cosmos is a sophisticated digital audio processing platform designed for creating evolving, meditative soundscapes and experimental looping textures. Operating at 32-bit/48kHz with high-grade Cirrus Logic audio converters and a Burr-Brown op-amp, the Cosmos delivers exceptional audio fidelity while maintaining SOMA's reputation for unconventional creative tools. Built in Russia/Georgia, this pedal represents SOMA's philosophy of creating instruments for sound exploration rather than conventional effects processing.
The pedal offers four distinct algorithm types, each with three settings for varying memory lengths. The Two Delay Lines algorithm provides 2.5, 9.5, and 22 seconds of delay time across two independent delay lines. The Four Delay Lines algorithm splits the available memory into four separate lines with settings of 2.5, 8.5, and 11.5 seconds, enabling complex polyrhythmic textures. The Giant Reverb algorithm creates digital reverb based on halls of gigantic proportions measuring in kilometers, with the three settings adjusting the hall size from huge to insanely-super-huge. The Granular Delay algorithm implements an asynchronous granular looper that scrubs through the memory buffer randomly, creating glitchy, atmospheric textures perfect for ambient music.
Control over these algorithms comes through an intuitive interface featuring a Blur control that sends cross-feedbacks between delay lines for smearing effects, Drift function adding slow panning modulations, and Drive adding crunch and saturation. High-pass and low-pass filters shape the frequency content, while Reverse, Erase, and Record buttons provide performance control. The pedal is designed for Frippertronics-style layering and can be updated with alternative firmware for different performance modes.
The Cosmos excels at creating soundscapes that drift and evolve over time, making it ideal for ambient guitarists, synthesizer players, and experimental musicians who want to explore the boundaries between delay, reverb, and granular synthesis. Its stereo processing capabilities create immersive spatial effects that range from subtle atmospheric enhancement to completely transformed sonic textures. The combination of pristine digital processing with unconventional algorithms makes the Cosmos a unique tool for sonic exploration.
