Clean Machine
Discrete Class A transformer and inductor-loaded preamp offering flexible high-output coloration from clean boost to unrefined overdrive.
The Clean Machine is unique high-output preamp pedal that sits somewhere between vintage mixing desk channel strip, Fulltone Fat Boost, and Cesar Diaz Texas Ranger, while being none of these things exactly. Designed to color your tone in just the right way, it excels at enriching flat-sounding cleans, boosting front end of amplifier into various flavors of overdrive, or functioning standalone as "desk channel" unrefined overdrive. This is discrete, inductor, and transformer-loaded signal path pedal with no chips in its construction, adding distinct vintage character to tone with valve-like dynamics and breakup.
Clean Machine features four interactive controls that work together in sophisticated ways. BASE is pre-gain bass control that cuts frequencies below 2.6kHz and is particularly useful for taming downtuned guitars. BUFF serves as main gain control and is highly interactive with BASE control since it affects pre-gain EQ stage. SHEEN is parallel high cut above 740Hz that becomes more pronounced as you turn dial to left, functioning as inductive EQ control. CUT is final volume output paired with low-pass filter below 1.5kHz, and it's transformer-coupled for impedance matching with noise filter.
For engineers, it's characterized as moderately high headroom (9V) low impedance input, two-band channel strip. Pedal incorporates design elements inspired by classic boost and preamp circuits, including Hi-Mid-Lo or "Range" selector booster section similar to Cesar Diaz Texas Ranger, but allowing fine-tuning between all values rather than selecting from discrete positions. Unusual knob interactions require some learning but reward players with exceptional tonal flexibility and vintage harmonic character. MusicRadar gave it 4 out of 5 stars, calling it "slightly flawed masterpiece of preamp pedal" that sounds amazing and offers versatile tone shaping.
