Cathedral
Evolution of the legendary Hyperfuzz designed for metal and hardcore, featuring synthetic germanium technology, octave-up effect, active EQ, and three distinct modes with over 20dB of available boost.
The Cathedral represents Spline Laboratories' modern reimagining of the legendary Hyperfuzz circuit, fine-tuned specifically for the demands of contemporary metal and hardcore players. Designed to meet the discerning needs of producer and guitarist Josh Ang for his project Pincer+, the pedal combines multiple fuzz voices, overdrive, and boost capabilities in a single compact unit optimized for heavy tones. Built in small batches in Canada and carrying a lifetime warranty for original purchasers, each Cathedral is a sought-after piece of boutique engineering. The heart of the Cathedral is its synthetic germanium technology in the Gain control, providing vintage transistor texture and compression without the temperature instability and inconsistency of actual germanium devices. This clever circuit design delivers the warmth and sag associated with germanium fuzzes while maintaining the reliability and consistency that modern players demand. Three pedal modes offer vast tonal range: upper-mid fuzz emphasizes cutting frequencies for solos and leads, lower-mid fuzz provides thick rhythm saturation, and an overdrive mode delivers more transparent gain staging for dynamic playing. The Glare control adds a nasty octave-up effect reminiscent of HM-2-style Swedish death metal chainsaw tones, perfect for blending brutal high-frequency harmonics with core distortion sounds. An active EQ with custom sweep allows precise tonal shaping across the frequency spectrum, ensuring the Cathedral integrates perfectly with any guitar, pickup configuration, and amplifier combination. Over 20dB of available boost via the Level control ensures the Cathedral can push any amplifier into saturation or function as a standalone high-gain preamp for direct recording or ampless performance. The Blend control is particularly crucial for maintaining clarity - it allows mixing dry guitar signal with the effected tone, preserving note definition and articulation even under extreme distortion levels that would normally turn single notes into compressed mush. Limited edition runs with different finishes including red, chrome, and blackout colorways have made the Cathedral one of the most chased units in the boutique pedal underground. Batches sell out rapidly due to Spline's commitment to small-scale production and quality control.
