Medium-high gain tube preamp/distortion based on Soldano Supercharger GTO with enhanced Baxandall tonestack and bass boost.
The Black Eye II is a tube-powered preamp and distortion pedal inspired by the Soldano Supercharger GTO circuit, delivering aggressive medium-to-high gain tones for both guitar and bass. Unlike the original Soldano design with single-knob tone control, Sushi Box upgraded it with a Baxandall tonestack providing independent bass and treble controls for superior tone shaping.
The pedal features a bass boost switch that swaps the 1uF cathode bypass capacitors for 47uF versions, providing significantly fatter bass response particularly well-suited for bass guitar. Version 2 addressed oscillation issues from the original, ensuring stable operation when connected directly to guitar without buffering. With tube circuitry running at high voltage, the Black Eye II delivers authentic Soldano-style saturation and aggression.
As a tube pedal, requires 9-12VDC power supply capable of at least 400mA. Excels at delivering punchy, aggressive distortion tones that cut through any mix, making it excellent for high-gain Soldano-inspired tones in a compact pedal format.
