Colordriver 9V
Handmade Colorsound 9V Overdriver recreation with BC109 transistors. Jeff Beck and David Gilmour tone from 1971.
Tru-Fi's Colordriver 9V is a handmade recreation of the famous 1971 Colorsound 9 Volt Overdriver used by Jeff Beck and David Gilmour. The original was released to replace the 18V Power Boost, which was too loud for pre-master-volume amps. This 9V version tamed that output while maintaining the distinctive Colorsound character.
The circuit uses three vintage BC109 transistors for authentic tone. Controls include Gain, Treble, Bass, and a side-mounted volume knob (mirroring the original design). The side volume allows you to push your amp hard while maintaining control. True bypass switching with LED indicator keeps your signal clean when off.
Built in the USA with 100% handmade construction, the pedal runs on 9V battery or center-negative power supply in a compact enclosure slightly larger than a Boss pedal. It spans booster, overdrive, and fuzz depending on gain and volume interaction—versatile from transparent boost to full saturation. Featured multiple times on That Pedal Show.
