Shanks II
John Shanks' silicon/FET fuzz inspired by Fuzz Face, Tonebender, and Buzzaround.
The Shanks II is a collaboration with legendary producer and session guitarist John Shanks, designed to capture the vintage sound of classic fuzzes including the Fuzz Face, Tonebender, and Buzzaround. Unlike the germanium-based Shanks 4K, this pedal uses silicon transistors and FET for greater versatility.
The circuit employs 2 silicon transistors and 1 FET, along with 3 Orange Drop capacitors for classic tone. This silicon/FET configuration makes it more temperature-stable than germanium fuzzes while providing a versatile pedal that works well with any kind of pickups or guitars. You can dial in a wide range of fuzz tones to suit your needs.
Controls include Level, Fuzz, and Tone, plus an internal Bias trimmer for fine-tuning the transistor operating point. Extremely low current draw at just 2mA makes it incredibly pedalboard-friendly. Dimensions are 70mm wide by 113mm deep by 50mm tall, weighing 395g.
