A toggle switch bypasses the clipping diodes in the Open position for subtle, low-compression drive. In the Closed position, diodes engage for smoother breakup with more compression. This simple switch dramatically changes the overdrive character.

Output, color, and gain controls are all you need. The color knob adjusts brightness without the harshness of typical tone controls. Even with gain maxed, the Messner stays remarkably subtle and organic. It excels as an always-on tone enhancer or a clean boost pushing a tube amp into natural breakup.
