Sweet Tooth
LED-induced dual-mode distortion (overdrive/fuzz) with Pultec EQP-1A tone shaping and swappable caps.
Sweet Tooth is a dual-mode LED-induced distortion where the LED itself IS the distortion. The left lamp on the front doesn't just show bypass status—it's the distortion element. Drive it harder and it glows brighter, delivering harder clipping. A mode switch flips between warm overdrive and waveshaping fuzz, giving you two distinct gain characters from one circuit.
Following the LED stage is a Pultec EQP-1A inspired tone shaping section with independent boost and cut for low and high frequencies. What makes this especially clever: Whimsy Machines included PCB-mounted screw terminals so you can swap the low-pass and high-pass capacitors in the boost and cut circuits without soldering. This lets you customize the EQ frequencies to taste, reversibly.
Built in small batches in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Sweet Tooth combines unconventional circuit design with hands-on tweakability. Note that due to regulations, Whimsy Machines cannot sell this pedal to customers in the European Union. It's a standout example of boutique pedal building that prioritizes experimentation and user control.
