Homework Series Distortion
Rat-style distortion with tilt EQ (flat at 60%) and clipping toggle (Si/LED/No)—OP07 opamp, 40mA/9V.
The Homework Series Distortion reimagines the classic ProCo Rat distortion with modern features and personal touches. Unlike the Rat's traditional low-pass tone filter, this pedal uses a tilt EQ that pivots around a flat response point—at approximately 60% (1:00-2:00 position), frequency response remains neutral; lower settings reduce highs while boosting bass, higher settings increase high-mid and treble while reducing bass. This approach provides more versatile tonal shaping than standard Rat circuits.
Dist control adjusts overall signal gain using an OP07 opamp in the clipping section, Vol manages output volume. A three-position clipping toggle offers Si (classic Rat2-style silicon diode clipping for smooth, compressed character), LED (Turbo Rat-style using red LEDs for louder, crunchier saturation), and No (removes clipping entirely for loudest, least compressed setting suitable as a clean boost).
Relay-based soft-touch true bypass defaults to bypass when unpowered. 9V DC center-negative power at 40mA draw. Handmade in Winnipeg, part of the Homework Series featuring Canadian notebook-inspired artwork. The pedal targets players seeking Rat-style aggression with expanded clipping options and more flexible EQ, suitable for punk, grunge, and alternative rock where aggressive distortion needs to cut through dense mixes.
