The Homework Series Fuzz builds on the iconic Zvex Fuzz Factory circuit with personal touches and NOS (new old stock) germanium transistors for vintage tonal characteristics. Seven controls provide extensive sound shaping: Vol sets master output, Stab adjusts bias voltage (reducing below 9V enables oscillation effects), Drive controls transistor gain, Gate determines sustain cutoff (higher settings create glitchy velcro fuzz textures), Tone provides passive lowpass filtering to reduce high-end frequencies, Comp softens attack, and Body blends low-end harmonic content between two capacitor values.
The combination of controls allows the pedal to produce everything from smooth vintage fuzz to self-oscillating chaos to gated stutter effects. NOS germanium transistors deliver the temperature-sensitive, slightly unpredictable character that made 1960s fuzzes legendary. Unlike silicon-based fuzzes, germanium circuits respond more dynamically to guitar volume adjustments and pick attack.
Relay-based soft-touch true bypass defaults to bypass when unpowered. 9V DC center-negative power at only 15mA draw—the lowest current requirement in the Homework Series. Handmade in Winnipeg, individually screen-printed, comes in screen-printed bag and box. The pedal targets experimental players seeking extreme fuzz textures and oscillation effects, suitable for noise rock, shoegaze, and avant-garde where conventional fuzz tones don't provide enough sonic weirdness.
