47/73 Classic
Big Muff circuit capturing both 1973 and 1977 versions. Toggle switches between eras.
1973 Ram's Head Big Muff Pi variant named not for the year 1947 but for the heavy use of '47' value components throughout the circuit: 470pF, 0.047uF, 0.47uF, and 0.0047uF capacitors plus 470k resistors. Uses 4 vintage BC209 transistors per pedal—UFO-style black-top, gold-leg mil-spec units.
Volume, Tone, and Sustain controls. Lots of fuzz, lots of mid-scoop, and tons of low end. Not quiet or refined—rumbling lows and impolite gain that works especially well for bass and blown-out guitar tones.
Limited production run due to the 4 BC209 transistors per pedal requirement from finite NOS stock. Appeals to Gilmour-tone seekers and bass players wanting a less-tight, more chaotic Muff sound. A specific 1973 Ram's Head variant with unusual component values despite looking identical to other Ram's Heads externally. True hardwire bypass.
