OD-20 Drive Zone
Multi-drive processor with COSM modeling of classic overdrive and distortion circuits.
The OD-20 Drive Zone models 14 classic overdrive and distortion circuits using COSM technology, packed into Boss's twin-pedal format. Released in 2003, it attempts to put a greatest-hits collection of drive pedals into a single unit.
Fourteen algorithms cover legendary circuits: Tube Screamer, Rat, OD-1, BD-2, DS-1, MT-2, Fuzz Face, Big Muff, Guv'nor, Turbo OD, and more. Each model aims to capture the voicing and feel of the original. Two footswitches handle bypass and bank/preset selection.
Drive, Tone, Bottom, Level, and a Type selector. The Bottom control adjusts low-end response independently from the Tone knob. Five user presets store complete settings. At 100mA it draws moderately in the twin-pedal format.
The OD-20 was an early attempt at what amp modelers like the Helix and Kemper would later do on a larger scale. The models are simplified compared to modern standards, but the concept of switching between classic drive circuits with presets was forward-thinking for 2003.
