PH-1 Phaser
Original 1977 phaser with classic swoosh - smooth four-stage phase shifting.
The PH-1 Phaser was one of Boss's original three compact pedals, debuting alongside the OD-1 and SP-1 at NAMM in 1977. It helped define the compact phaser sound and established the single-footswitch format that every Boss pedal still follows.
A four-stage analog phaser circuit produces the classic sweeping, jet-like effect. The depth and character are relatively subtle compared to modern phasers, with a smooth, musical sweep that sits behind the guitar tone rather than dominating it.
Rate and Depth controls. At 7mA, a 9V battery lasts months. Simple and effective. Produced from 1977 to 1981 before being replaced by the PH-1R with added resonance control.
As one of the original three Boss compacts, the PH-1 is historically significant. Early units with the silver screw are collector's items. The phaser sound is warm and understated, a product of the pre-80s analog effects era.
