OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion
Hybrid pedal blending overdrive and distortion with continuous color control.
The OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion blends two circuits into one pedal: a smooth overdrive and a harder distortion. A Color knob continuously mixes between the two, letting you dial in everything from pure overdrive to pure distortion and any combination in between.
This isn't a mode switch; the Color control actually blends the two circuits in parallel. At one extreme, it's a warm, SD-1-style overdrive. At the other, it's a harder, more saturated distortion. In the middle, you get both circuits layered together, which produces a unique character that neither circuit achieves alone.
Level, Tone, Drive, and Color controls. At 5mA it's extremely power-efficient, running on a 9V battery for weeks. The Color knob is the entire selling point: the ability to morph between two gain characters without switching pedals.
Produced since 1990, the OS-2 is one of Boss's longest-running models. It's a practical solution for players who want both overdrive and distortion but don't want two pedals. The blending feature is surprisingly musical and makes it more versatile than it appears.
