Perseus
Analog sub-octave square wave fuzz with switchable one or two octaves down—8-bit Nintendo tones.
The Catalinbread Perseus generates analog sub-octave square wave fuzz that can drop one or two octaves below your signal. The Octave switch selects between the two tracking modes, Blend mixes the octave signal with your fuzz tone, and Cut acts as a highpass filter—fully counter-clockwise lets all bass through, clockwise trims low frequencies for a tighter, more focused sound.
Volume sits at unity around 10 o'clock, so there's plenty of output on tap. The square wave tracking produces tones reminiscent of 8-bit video game consoles—thick, glitchy, and deliberately artificial. It responds to playing dynamics and works best with single-note lines where the tracking can lock onto your pitch.
Draws just 1mA from a 9V supply, making it extremely battery-friendly. Great for bass players, experimental guitarists, and anyone who wants to add synthesizer-like sub-octave weight to their signal.
