Bat Cold War
RAT variant pairing Western LM308 and Soviet UD1408 op-amps with 6 clipping modes.
Drunk Beaver is a Polish pedal company founded by Ukrainian builder Vitalii Bobrov, known for creative use of NOS Soviet components in classic circuit designs.
The Bat Cold War splits the Iron Curtain down the middle. A toggle selects between a Western NOS LM308 ("West") and a Soviet UD1408 ("East") op-amp, each imparting its own gain character to the RAT-based circuit. Six clipping modes (boost, soft MOSFET, soft germanium, hard silicon, hard LED, hard germanium) combine with a 3-way Fat switch for bass voicing.
Distortion, Filter, and Volume controls keep operation straightforward while the switching options provide a massive palette. Drawing just 1.7mA, it runs cool on any power supply. The Cold War name fits perfectly: two sides of the same circuit, each with its own sonic ideology.
