Angry Charlie V3
Marshall JCM800-inspired channel drive with three-band EQ, presence, and high-gain range.
JHS built the Angry Charlie to capture the aggressive midrange bark and singing sustain of the Marshall JCM800 amplifier that defined hard rock and metal tones through the 1980s. The circuit draws inspiration from the cult classic Marshall Guv'nor distortion pedal, translating cranked-plexi response into a compact floor unit.
The V3 added a full Marshall-style three-band EQ with active boost and cut capabilities alongside the presence control introduced in V2. Bass, Middle, and Treble knobs behave like amp controls—12 o'clock is flat, rotation cuts or boosts selected frequencies. Drive ranges from bluesy vintage grit through aggressive high-gain saturation.
The red enclosure distinguishes V3 from earlier versions. At 11mA draw, it barely registers on most power supplies. Volume and Drive interaction mimics master volume amp behavior. Turn any clean platform into a screaming Marshall stack without hauling 50 watts of tubes.
