HP-2
Harmonic Percolator fuzz with paired PNP/NPN transistors, beloved by Steve Albini.
Land Devices is a mysterious boutique pedal operation run out of Oakland, CA. Known for their minimalist aesthetic and refined takes on classic circuits, Land Devices has built a cult following among players seeking unique, well-crafted effects.
The HP-2 is a faithful interpretation of the legendary Harmonic Percolator circuit, the unusual fuzz design made famous by Steve Albini and Shellac. What makes this circuit unique is its pairing of PNP and NPN transistors (one germanium, one silicon) in a configuration that emphasizes even-order harmonics, producing a distinctively musical and aggressive distortion character.
The H (Harmonics) control adjusts input gain from clean boost to broken-speaker territory, while the B (Balance) knob sets output level. A rocker switch toggles between 70s-inspired saturation and more aggressive modern tones, while the diode lift switch unleashes massive low-end destruction. The HP-2 works equally well with guitar and bass with cutting fuzz tones across the frequency spectrum.
