F Division
Monophonic sub-octave synth with three switchable divisions and synthy overdrive—fuzz bass chaos.
The October Audio F Division FD.1 is a monophonic sub-octave synthesizer pedal with ridiculous rump-shaking bass content, using a CMOS counter/divider chip that cuts frequency in half at each stage to produce three octaves down from the source. Input signals are amplified and passed through the divider, offering three possible divisions via independent toggle switches that can be activated in any combination.
The SUB knob mixes all sub-octave settings together, while the DRIVE knob controls a synthy overdrive circuit that branches separately from the CMOS input for crunchy, somewhat synthy saturation. Each toggle switch operates independently—left position "on", right position "off"—allowing you to stack one, two, or all three sub-octaves (1, 2, and 3 octaves down) for devastating bass frequencies.
The sub-octaves track across the fretboard with increasing glitchy-ness below the 5th fret, sounding like square wave bass fuzz even when used alone. Drawing only 6mA from a center-negative 9V supply (no battery option), the F Division measures 5.0" × 3.0" × 2.4" with Neutrik and Lumberg jacks in green swirl graphics with white/silver hammertone finish.
