Ubiquity
Dual op-amp overdrive with switchable hard/soft clipping and socketed IC. Frequency sculpting before and after gain.
The Ubiquity is a dual op-amp overdrive with extensive tone-shaping options. Two gain stages feed into switchable clipping modes: the DISTORT toggle engages hard clipping with asymmetrical diodes, while the DRIVE toggle engages soft clipping with symmetrical diodes. Both can run simultaneously.
VOLUME and GAIN handle level and first-stage saturation. PRE-CLIP is a high-pass filter that determines which low frequencies reach the clipping stages. FILTER is a post-gain low-pass that retains or removes high-frequency content generated during clipping. The op-amp is socketed (stock LM1458) for swapping in different chips to change the character.
A mix of silicon and Schottky diodes in the clipping section provides range from clean boost through crunchy overdrive to saturated distortion. 1590BBS enclosure at 4.6 x 3.8 inches, 471g. Runs on 9V center-negative at under 5mA, no battery.
